Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: Impact and Injury


Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered another knee injury that rules him out of the England squad for Euro 2016. Arsene Wenger revealed that the 22-year-old had “no chance” of being fit for the tournament having suffered a new problem that will sideline him for six to eight weeks.

The Panenka has made a quick review of the impact the former Southampton man has made since emerging a a 16-year-old talent at Saint Mary’s, as well the injures that have held back the robust winger from a promising career so far.

Impact – March 2010 -1st team debut for Southampton at 16 years 199 days, coming off the bench in a 5–0 victory over Huddersfield.

Impact –August 2010 – Scored his first senior goal in his first senior start after scoring the second in a 2-0 league cup victory over Bournemouth.

Impact – September 2011 – Scored in the eight minute of Arsenal’s Champions League tie against Olympiakos to become the youngest ever Englishman to score in the competition.

Impact – February – 2012 – Scored his first Premier League goal with a brace in a 7-1 drubbing of Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates.

Impact – May 2012 – Nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2011/2012 season. Lost out to Kyle Walker.

Impact – May 2012 – Included in England’s 23-man squad for Euro 2012 he started in the opening game against France.

Impact – October 2012 – Scored for England for the first time in a 5-0 victory against San Marino in a World Cup Qualifier.

Impact – December 2012 – Signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal. Finished the 2012/2013 season with two goals from 33 appearances.

Impact – June 2013 – Scored against Brazil for England in a friendly in the official opening of the refurbished Maracana.

Injury – August 2013 – Came off injured on the opening day of the season in a 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa. He would be out for around three months. He would miss England qualifiers against Poland and Montenegro as a result.

Impact – February 2014 – Opened his account for the season with a double in 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Injury – April 2014 – Missed the end of the season with a recurring injury. Missed the FA Cup Final but was still included in England’s 2014 World Cup squad.


Injury – June 2014 – Injured himself during a World Cup warm-up game against Equador.

Injury – 2014 – Broke down in training once more, this time before the meaningless final World Cup 2014 group game against Costa Rica.

Impact – May 2014 – Finished 2013/2014 season with three goals from 20 appearances.

Impact – September 2014 – Scored the equalizer in the North London derby that finished 1-1.

Injury – February 2015 – Injured hamstring in 2-1 FA Cup victories at Old Trafford.

Impact – May 2015 – Used as a 90th minute substitute in the 4-0 FA Cup final victory against Aston Villa.

Impact – May 2015 – Finished 2014/2015 season with three goals from 37 appearances

Injury – April 2015 – Injured medial knee ligaments in training and will miss Euro 2016.
